UC Master Gardeners of Ventura County Garden to Table Series: Savory Onions and Alliums In-Person

Learn how to cultivate fresh, pungent onion crops in your own garden with our "Growing Flavorful Onions & Alliums" class.

This comprehensive session covers all the savory basics - onions, leeks, shallots, green onions and chives. Our Master Gardener instructor provides tips specifically for growing these aromatic vegetables in our local mild climate. You'll learn variety selection, soil preparation and spacing techniques, integrated pest management strategies, and harvesting and curing methods for longest storage. We’ll also cover some cooking techniques and recipes.

Start harvesting crisp, homegrown alliums for elevated flavors in meals all year round. From pungent cooking onions to zesty green onion tops, you'll have flavorful bulbs on hand! Enrich your favorite dishes with just-harvested, locally-grown alliums from your own ongoing supply!
